20 June 2016 – The Philippine Consul General to Agana Marciano R. De Borja hosted the Vin d’Honneur and reception in commemoration of the 118th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 13 at the Micronesian Room of Hilton Guam Resort and Spa.
The program started with the singing of the Philippine and US national anthems and the Guam Hymn led by Ms. Agatha De Borja, daughter of Consul General De Borja. It was followed by the reading of the Independence Day message of President Benigno S. Aquino III by Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian.
The highlight of the event was the ceremonial toast to celebrate the close friendship and strong ties between the Philippines, the United States, and the island of Guam, led by Consul General De Borja and Guam Governor Eddie B. Calvo.
After the ceremonial toast, the guests were serenaded by Dessa, a renowned Filipina singer both in the Philippines and abroad, with a selection of beautiful original Filipino music.
For the opening of the cocktail reception, Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, the newly arrived bishop administrator of the Archdiocese of Agana, offered a prayer and blessing of the food.
Close to 200 guests attended the Vin d’ Honneur reception, including dignitaries from the Guam government, legislature, judiciary, business, the armed services, academe, church, media, members of the Consular Corps and officers, and members of the different Filipino community organizations. END
