20 June 2016 - Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos C. Salinas swore in Messieurs Pablo Martin Peré and David Garcia Pena as the new Honorary Consuls for Palma de Mallorca and Vigo, respectively.
Ambassador Salinas encouraged the Honorary Consuls to uphold their oath to promote the interests of the Philippines and safeguard the rights and welfare of Filipinos in their areas of jurisdiction.
Mr. Peré, a former legislator and a lawyer, will cover the Balearic Islands. He will be replacing Mr. Juan Torrente Blanch, who has retired after 18 years of dedicated service.
The provinces of A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense, and Pontevedra will comprise the jurisdiction of Mr. Pena, who is a highly regarded Spanish businessman.
The appointment of Messrs. Peré and Pena highlights the Embassy’s commitment to further broaden its reach; vigorously promote the Philippines’ trade and tourism; strengthen cultural, political, and economic cooperation; and advance the interest of overseas Filipinos in Spain.
With these new appointments, the Embassy has now a total of nine Honorary Consular Officers serving in Andorra, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cadiz, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Sevilla, Valencia, and Vigo.
The formal public opening of the Consulates in Palma de Mallorca and Vigo will be announced at a later date. END
