21 June 2016 - The Filipino community in New South Wales (NSW) celebrated the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the 21st Philippine Airlines Kalayaan Cup Golf Tournament at the Riverside Oaks Golf Resort New Course in Cattai, New South Wales (NSW), organized by the New Kalayaan Cup Organizing Committee led by its Chairman, Mr. Ric De Vera.
In his message at the awards ceremony, Consul Marford Angeles noted that the PAL Kalayaan Golf Cup brings together players from diverse backgrounds and highlights the Filipino community’s friendship with the wider Australian society. He thanked the players for supporting the Kalayaan Cup 2016 and for celebrating the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Philippines-Australia Diplomatic Relations with the Filipino community.
Mr. Ian Robinson said that Philippine Airlines, now celebrating its 75 years, will continue its strong support for the Kalayaan Cup.
A total of 134 golf enthusiasts took part in the tournament which included players from more than 20 golf associations including the Thai Golf Association and the Italian Golf Association.
The Over-all Champion at the 2016 PAL Kalayaan Cup was Mr. Bill Yelland. The other winners at the Cup were Berry Bacalla (Division A Runner up), Nelson Catig (Division B Runner up); Govind Singh (Division B Winner); Mek Phungsamphan (Division C Winner) and Vangie Leones (Ladies Runner up).
Consul Angeles congratulated Mr .De Vera and the other members of the organizing committee on holding the successful PAL 2016 Kalayaan Cup Golf Tournament. END
