07 October 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General has initiated a culinary caravan around Chicago, entitled “Chicago Food Trip”, visiting mainstream restaurants in Chicagoland that include in its menu Filipino and Filipino-inspired items.

The purpose of this activity is to make Philippine cuisine a dynamic element of creating awareness on Philippine culture and support the efforts of second generation Filipinos, which includes highly-regarded chefs, in influencing the Chicago dining scene.

This activity, which will go on for the whole month of October, is in celebration of Filipino American History Month.

Each week starting end of September, the Consulate Tasting Team will visit one to two restaurants and will post in the official Facebook (FB) account (www.facebook.com/chicagopcg) teasers on where the Consulate Culinary Caravan will be heading, inviting people to come join in the magical gustatory tour.

Photos of the establishments that the team has visited will also be posted on the FB page, together with the menu items it has tasted and also with the chef and owner/s of the establishment.

Like the saying goes, “The quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. What better way to make Chicagoans aware about the Philippines than through Philippine cuisine?

Restaurants that have been visited on the first leg were: Sunda New Asian, whose executive chef is Filipino-American Jess De Guzman; and Smalls Smoke Shack & More, whose chef is Philippine-born Joaquin Soler.

More restaurants that serve Filipino-inspired food will be visited in the next few weeks. END
