12 June 2016 – Filipinos in Egypt marked the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a day of fun and games.
The event, organized by Filipino community volunteers, featured song and dance numbers by various Filipino organizations in Cairo and Alexandria, as well as a fashion show of traditional Philippine wear. Kids also enjoyed a variety of Filipino party games.
Raffle prizes were given away to lucky attendees, thanks to generous donations from the Filipino community and Etihad Airways, one of the event’s major sponsors.
In his welcoming remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Leslie J. Baja hailed the overseas Filipino as an integral part of nation-building and urged all in attendance to take their Filipino identity to heart.
The Philippine Embassy to Egypt also held a flag raising ceremony to celebrate the occasion. END
