27 June 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Agana and the Laguna Association of Guam (LAG) commemorated the 155th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal on June 23 at the Cultural Affairs Section of the Consulate General.
The program started with the traditional wreath offering at the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal led by Philippine Consul General to Agana Marciano R. de Borja, Madam Esperanza de Borja, Mr. Angel Baldemor, President of the Laguna Association of Guam and his spouse Mrs. Eli Baldemor.
The wreath laying was followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem led by Ms. Agatha de Borja, daughter of the Consul General. The commemoration which is normally held at outdoor bust of Dr. Jose Rizal donated by the LAG in 2008 and located at the official residence in Jonestown, Tamuning was held at the Consulate General this year due to inclement weather.
The highlight of the event was the short video presentation about Dr. Jose Rizal descendants and monuments around the world. The sources of the video clips were culled from the GMA news feature compilation presented during Dr. Jose Rizal’s 150th Birth Anniversary. The Consul General, in his presentation, also remembered the National hero through his personal account while he was assigned in Madrid, Spain.
One of the members of the Laguna Association of Guam who was born and raised in Calamba, Laguna said that the series of lecture by the Consul General about Dr. Jose Rizal allowed her to expand her personal knowledge about her illustrious kababayan.
The discussion continued during the merienda. Filipino merienda such as arroz caldo paired with tokwa’t baboy, pansit bihon, biko na may latik, lumpiang shanghai, panghimagas na ginatang monggo and turon were served and shared after the lecture. END
