Guangzhou 1

30 June 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou hosted a flag ceremony to commemorate the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12 at the Garden Hotel in Guangzhou.

The ceremony was participated in by around 150 members of the Filipino community from Guangdong and Hainan, who proudly sang the country’s national anthem and renewed their oath of allegiance to the Philippine flag.

Following the ceremony, Philippine Consul General to Guangzhou Marie Charlotte G. Tang read the Independence Day message of President Benigo S. Aquino III.  She also called on the Filipino community to heed the call of this year’s Independence Day celebrations - “Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong” so that all Filipinos may live in peace, prosperity, without fear and with full dignity.

Filipino talents gave moving and warmly-applauded performances during the morning celebration. The Filipino Chorale Society sang the national anthem and beloved Filipino numbers “Isang dugo, isang lahi, isang musika,” the Bisayang Ibyang performed the “Subli” and the Guangzhou Filipino Students Union danced the Singkil. Guangdong-based Filipino bands Neo Rush and Overdrive gave rousing OPM numbers.

A Filipino breakfast, complete with sinangag, tapa, tocino and champorado, was served to cap the event. END
