08 July 2016 – Ambassador Maria Fe T. Pangilinan presented her credentials as non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to H.E. President Rosen Plevneliev of the Republic of Bulgaria at the Presidential Palace in Sofia on June 10.
The presentations were followed by a 15-minute talk between President Plevneliev and Ambassador Pangilinan with a focus on fully realizing and enhancing relations between the two countries. President Plevneliev said that Bulgaria is an open country which seeks to enlarge and deepen ties with all other countries. Both the President and the Ambassador welcomed and encouraged delegations from various fields to visit the respective countries. President Plevneliev also mentioned the candidature of current UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova to the post of UN Secretary General this year.
Both agreed that the Philippines and Bulgarian bilateral relations in trade and investment should be further encouraged.
President Plevneliev is also eager to meet with President Rodrigo R. Duterte during the 11th ASEM Summit in Ulaanbaator, Mongolia (July 15 to 16).
Both countries maintain Honorary Consulates, Bulgarian Honorary Consul Rene Ledesma in Manila, and Philippine Honorary Consul is Mr. OgnianTrajanov in Sofia.
The Ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary Patricia V. Barrera; Ms. Lallaine Marie V. Uy, secretary and Attaché; and Mr. Ognian Trajanov, Philippine Honorary Consul in Bulgaria. END
