Santiago Rizal

08 July 2016 - In commemoration of the 155th Birth Anniversary of Jose Rizal, the Philippine Embassy in Santiago and the Municipality of Las Condes installed a plaque at the bust of the national hero at Plaza Filipinas in Las Condes, Santiago, on June 30.

The plaque highlights Dr. Jose Rizal’s legacy to the Filipino people, which includes pacifism and non-violent means of achieving political reform. It also briefly mentions Dr. Rizal’s background and the influence of his two famous novels—Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo—to the Philippine revolution and the achievement of Philippine Independence in 1898. Before the plaque, Dr. Rizal’s bust only bore his name, and dates of birth and death.

The plaque was unveiled by Ms. Raisa Mabayo of the Philippine Embassy in Santiago and Honorable Counselor Martita Fresno from the Municipality of Las Condes. Also among the guests were Ms. Carmen Gloria Oisel, head of the Municipality of Las Condes’ Office of Parks and Gardens and other officials from the Municipality of Las Condes. END
