08 July 2016- The Philippine Embassy in Santiago celebrated the 118th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence Day on June 10 at the Club La Union, a former exclusive gentlemen’s club in Santiago, Chile.
Embassy personnel welcomed guests, which included the Chief of the Office of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile Ms. Gloria Navarete, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Papal Nuncio Ivo Scapolo, as well as the Ambassadors and officers of ASEAN Missions in Santiago. In her welcome address, Charge d’Affaires Raisa Mabayo thanked the guests for celebrating the occasion with the Embassy, and remarked on the successes of the PH government and the highlights of PH-Chile relations in the past year, including Chilean President Michelle Bachelet’s State Visit to the Philippines in November 2015. She also acknowledged the recent relationships built between the Embassy and colleagues in the Chilean government and diplomatic corps that enabled the Embassy to pursue its mandate better, especially with regard to overseeing the welfare of Filipinos in Chile.
Guests to the relatively intimate affair were served Filipino food and enjoyed a cultural presentation from members of the Filipino community, who performed the singkil. END
