13 July 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary actively supported and participated in the first stampede “All Filipino Breakfast” hosted by the Fiesta Filipino Council in Calgary on July 10.

Calgary Stampede is celebrated every year in the month of July. The core purpose is to preserve and celebrate western heritage, culture, and community spirit while contributing to the quality of life by promoting volunteerism, presenting a year-round slate of events, investing in youth and agricultural programs, and developing a unique western experience for the world to enjoy.

Together with Philippine Consul General to Calgary Julius Torres at the breakfast were Ottawa Senator Tobias Enverga, the first Filipino-Canadian member of the upper house of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly: Mr. Prab Gill, Mr. Joe Ceci- Finance Minister, Ms. Robyn Luff, Ms. Teresa Woo-Pao-former MLA and founder of Asian Heritage and Mr. Irfan Sabir, Minister of Human Services.

In his remarks, Consul General Torres acknowledged the efforts of the Fiesta Filipino Council and other community leaders for the successful hosting of the first Filipino stampede breakfast in Calgary and announced that next year’s Filipino community participation in the stampede will even be bigger.

The event was attended by over 4,000 who lined up for the free Filipino food and enjoyed the breakfast entertainment featuring live bands and Fil-Canadian singer Annie Lux. END
