15 July 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, the UP Alumni Association of San Francisco, and the Friends of the University of the Philippines Foundation in America co-organized a forum and get-together with University of the Philippines President Alfredo E. Pascual and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Gisela Padilla-Concepcion at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on July 11.
Deputy Consul General Jaime Ramon T. Ascalon welcomed the alumni of the University to the Philippine Center, recalling President Pascual’s first visit to the Consulate five years ago, and Dr. Concepcion’s visit in 2015 to generate interest in attracting visiting professors to teach in UP and expanding the University’s international linkages. Deputy Consul General Ascalon commended the developments in UP’s academic and operational excellence thrusts under President Pascual’s stewardship.
In support of his statement that UP “has to succeed not because it has a reputation to keep, but because it has a nation to serve,” President Pascual gave a comprehensive update on UP’s Key Strategic Initiatives, as well as academic advances, in the last five years.
An open forum followed, where alumni asked about what is in store for the University for the next six years, and how they can support the thrusts of UP. END
