18 July 2016 - In celebration of the 38th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week, the Philippine Embassy, in cooperation with Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD), organized a Disability Awareness and Sensitivity Seminar on July 15. This year’s NDPR theme is “Karapatan ng Maykapansanan, isakatuparan…Now Na! (Uphold the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Immediately!)”
Mr. Jasper Rom (Community Development Manager) and Ms. Lynette Lee Corporal (Chief of Information and Knowledge Management) of APCD, were invited by the Embassy to present on approaches to understanding disability, learn about accessibility principles and standards, and how to interact with and empower PWDs.
Food products from “60 Plus+Bakery & Café,” an initiative implemented by APCD with support from the UNESCAP and other partners, were given away as refreshments at the seminar. The bakery is APCD’s project contributing to the Incheon Strategy to “Make the Right Real” for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific. It is an initiative that provides on-the-job training opportunities for PWDs in Thailand. END
