18 July 2016 - As part of its UPLIFT Series (Understanding the Philippines through Lectures and Interviews with Filipinos in Town), the Philippine Embassy organized a lecture by University of the Philippines Assistant Professor of Art Studies Clod Marlan Krister V. Yambao on “Pinoy Global Aestheticscapes: Philippine Contemporary Art and the Representations of Global Filipinos.” During the June 23 lecture at the Embassy, Mr. Yambao also discussed gender in the arts, expounding on topics such as “Pinoy Global Householding” and feminized global labor.
He has published several journal articles on aesthetics, mass culture, gender and institutional critique and is currently a research exchange staff at the University of Ghent, Department of Conflict and Development Studies in Belgium.
The Philippine Embassy also hosted the private screening of “Beyond Strength” by German filmmaker Lucien Noe on June 28. “Beyond Strength” is about the remarkable discovery of a group of Filipino children living, learning and growing together in a Children’s Home in Metro Manila. Mr. Noe discussed the film and the importance of the women and their positive contribution to society, particularly in the organizations that allowed the group of children to thrive.
The Embassy´s Lecture Series is for its staff and the Filipino Community. It hopes to inform and update Filipinos abroad on relevant issues affecting the Philippines. This is done via invitation to Filipino officials and various experts who are visiting Berlin. END
