VERSOZA

22 July 2016 - Several photographs (5’x4’ outdoor installations) of renowned Filipino photographer Mr. Jake Verzosa of “The Last Tattooed Women of Kalinga” are currently mounted at the Royal Ontario Museum’s property grounds along Queen’s Park in downtown Toronto, as part of the Scotiabank’s CONTACT Photography Festival.

In addition, the ongoing exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum entitled, “Tattoos: Ritual. Identity. Obsession. Art.” which runs from April 02 to September 05 includes two photographs taken by Mr. Verzosa.

His photograph of Whang-od, the 91-year old tattoo artist from Kalinga, is considered as the “face” of the exhibition. This speaks highly of the powerful photographs of Verzosa.  The Royal Ontario Museum is inviting Mr. Jake Verzosa to be a keynote lecturer at the Museum in August 2016 to cap the Exhibition’s run. The Tattoos Exhibition was first shown at the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris in 2014 where it earned rave reviews. The Royal Ontario Museum is one of the largest museums in North America, the largest in Canada; and attracts over one million visitors every year. END
