14 November 2013 – Upon the recommendation of the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario has lowered the Crisis Alert Level for Egypt from 4 (Mandatory Repatriation/Evacuation) to 3 (Voluntary Repatriation) due to continued improvement in the political and security situation in that country.

Alert level 3 entails the voluntary repatriation of Filipinos in Egypt.  The deployment of new workers, as well as the return to Egypt of vacationing workers, spouses of Egyptian nationals, Islamic University students and their dependents, continue to be suspended.

As of November 12, a total of 163 Filipinos in Egypt have been repatriated.

Secretary del Rosario has instructed the Embassy in Cairo to continue to extend assistance to some 6,000 Filipinos in Egypt.  END
