Statement: On Mortar Attack In Baghdad

07 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) today reminded members of the Filipino Community in Baghdad to be vigilant after mortar rounds were fired towards the Green Zone past midnight Friday.

The Philippine Embassy in Baghdad said at least three mortar shells landed and exploded near the embassies of the United States and Egypt but no casualties were reported. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Chargé d’Affaires Julius Torres said the more than 200 Filipinos working in the Green Zone, including those at the US Embassy, are safe but were advised to follow the security protocols of their respective companies.
