Update on Hurricane Florence
12 September 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reiterates its advisory for members of the Filipino Community in the southeastern United States to take the necessary precautions as Hurricane Florence continues to intensify as it approaches land.
The DFA said the estimated 150,000 members of the Filipino Community in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina have been told to keep themselves updated on the progress of the storm and to heed orders from local authorities.
Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez has reported that Florence is expected to move towards the coast of North Carolina or South Carolina on Thursday to Friday. He said Washington DC has followed Maryland and Virginia in declaring a state of emergency in anticipation of the torrential rain and flooding expected to be brought about by the hurricane.
Ambassador Romualdez said the Embassy will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with the Filipino Community in these areas. Filipinos who may find themselves in emergency situations that would require the Embassy's assistance may call (202) 368 2767. END
