Statement: On Arrival of 105 Repatriates from Dubai

03 October 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will welcome tomorrow, 4 October, the 11th batch of overseas Filipino workers who availed themselves of the amnesty offer of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A total of 105 OFWs from Dubai are expected to arrive at Terminal 2 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 8:45 a.m. This brings to 1,301 the total number of Filipinos flown home by the DFA since the start of the UAE’s amnesty program in August.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano said that in line with the President’s instructions to extend all possible assistance to distressed Filipinos abroad, the DFA shouldered the exit fines and other penalties, airline tickets to Manila and to the respective provinces of the repatriates. The DFA also provided financial assistance of P5,000.00 to each of the repatriates.

Secretary Cayetano also encouraged undocumented Filipinos to take advantage of the UAE’s amnesty program before the 31 October 2018 deadline, to give the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi ample time to process the necessary documents for their repatriation.

The Secretary met UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in New York last week to personally thank him for the amnesty program. END
