Statement: On Congo Oil Tanker Crash
08 October 2018 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) extended its sympathies to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) after a collision involving an oil tanker and a passenger bus left at least 50 persons dead and more than 100 injured.
The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi reported to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano that none of the estimated 142 Filipinos in the DRC were reported to be among the dead and injured.
Ambassador to Kenya Uriel Norman Garibay said the accident happened on a highway linking the capital Kinshasa to the country’s only port at Matadi on the Atlantic Ocean. END
