Bulletin: On the Situation in Tripoli

17 January 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is urging some 1,800 Filipinos in Tripoli to take the necessary precautions in view of renewed clashes in the southern Tripoli district of Qasir Ben Ghashir and the continued military build up there.

The Philippine Embassy in Tripoli reported that at least six people have been killed and over 20 wounded in clashes since Wednesday.

Chargé d’Affaires Mardomel Melicor said Filipinos in the Qasir Ben Ghashir, Wadi Al Rabea, Tariq Matar, Esbea and adjoining districts in Tripoli are advised to move to safer areas far from the scene of the clashes. Those in other areas of Tripoli are advised to monitor the situation closely, stay indoors, avoid unnecessary movements, and prepare to move to safer ground should the fighting spill over to their location.

Filipinos who may require assistance may call the Embassy’s hotline at +218 91 824 4208. END
