Bulletin: On the Death of Filipino Student in Australia
28 February 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) extends its deepest sympathy to the family of a Filipino student who drowned in Australia on Monday, 25 February.
In her report to the Home Office, Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega said authorities in Queensland informed the Philippine Embassy in Canberra of the death of the 24-year-old student from Queensford College in Brisbane. The Embassy was told the victim drowned off Flinders Beach in North Stradbroke Island.
The Office of Migrant Workers Affairs is touch with the family of the victim who have requested the Department’s assistance in the repatriation of his remains.
This is the fifth drowning incident abroad involving Filipinos since the start of the year. Two Filipinos earlier drowned in separate incidents in New Zealand while a couple also drowned while on their honeymoon in the Maldives. END
