Bulletin: On the Situation in Libya
04 April 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is monitoring the situation in Libya after authorities there declared a state of emergency on Wednesday night.
The Presidential Council placed security forces on alert after units loyal to the rival Libyan National Army (LNA) announced they have started advancing towards Tripoli, triggering some limited clashes south of the capital that left one person dead.
The Philippine Embassy in Tripoli immediately issued an advisory to the estimated 1,000 Filipinos working in the capital and western parts of the country and urged them to stay calm but vigilant.
Chargé d’Affaires Elmer G. Cato said the Embassy is in touch with members of the Filipino Community and that none has so far reported being affected by the clashes. He said that Filipinos in Libya who may need assistance are requested to contact the Embassy at +218.91.824.4208. END
