Bulletin: On the Landslide in Papua, Indonesia

05 April 2019 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is closely monitoring developments following a landslide at a mine of PT Freeport Indonesia in Tembagapura in Papua, Indonesia on 3 April 2019. The landslide claimed the lives of two Indonesian miners and injured two more.

Philippine Consulate General in Manado Acting Head of Post Manuel C. Ayap informed the Department that no Filipino casualty was reported from the 48 Filipinos working for the company.

The Consulate General was also able to contact the Filipinos in PT Freeport, who confirmed that they are all safe and were not affected by the landslide. The Consulate General advised them to be extra vigilant and to observe their company’s contingency plan in cases of emergencies.

The landslide in Tembagapura followed another landslide which struck illegal mines in Bolaang Mangondaw in North Sulawesi in February 2019. END
