Bulletin: On an Earthquake in Yamagata Prefecture in Japan
19 June 2019 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and the Philippine Consulate General in Osaka, is monitoring developments after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Yamagata Prefecture in Northern Japan at around 10:30 p.m. (Japan time) yesterday.
There are 815 registered Filipino in Yamagata Prefecture according to Embassy records. The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and the well-being of Filipinos in the area and is ready to assist as needed. Both the Embassy and the Consulate General have also issued urgent advisories to Filipinos in the affected areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued a tsunami alert for Yamagata Prefecture as well as coastal areas in Niigata and Ishikawa Prefectures following the quake. Railway services have been partly suspended and many households remain without power. As of 1:00 a.m. today, the JMA lifted the tsunami warning for all affected areas. END
