On the Sinking of Brunei Fishing Vessel Radims 2
12 August 2019 — The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Brunei, is actively monitoring developments on a report it received that a Brunei-flagged fishing vessel, Radims 2, capsized off the coast of Brunei. Eleven members of the crew were on board, seven of whom were Filipinos. Ambassador to Brunei Christopher Montero said that the Embassy is closely coordinating with Brunei authorities for updates on Brunei’s joint search and rescue operations with Malaysia. The search and rescue operations were halted yesterday as no crewmembers in the identified search area, other than the two previously rescued, were found. According to the Embassy's Philippine Overseas Labor Office, the last communication between the owner of Radims 2 and its captain was on 7 August 2019. Since then, Brunei’s National Search and Rescue Coordination Committee has sought assistance from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in locating missing crewmembers. END
