On the Death of Two Filipinos in Mexico
30 August 2019 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Mexico, received a report on the death of two Filipino seafarers after the bar they were in was attacked on 27 August 2019.
Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Demetrio R. Tuazon reported to DFA that 26 others were killed during the incident, where a gang set fire to a bar located in the Port of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. State Governor of Veracruz Cuitlahuac Garcia released a statement in social media, mentioning that the attack was a result of a dispute between rival gangs in the area.
The Embassy is now in touch with authorities and the Filipino seafarers’ manning agency for the repatriation of their remains. The DFA extends its condolences to the families of the Filipino seafarers, and the Embassy stands ready to provide further assistance if needed. END
