On Seizing of a Tugboat in the Persian Gulf

08 September 2019 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Tehran, is monitoring developments of a seizing of a tugboat manned by Filipino crew in the Persian Gulf on 7 September 2019. Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo C. Santos reported to the Department that the tugboat was seized because of alleged oil smuggling. He said that Coast Guard authorities relayed that an investigation is on going on the alleged oil smuggling of the crew, and once this has been established, the matter will be referred to the local court. The Embassy is seeking further updates on the seafarers' condition, and stands ready to provide assistance when needed. END
