Travel Advisory for Filipinos Traveling to Paris, France

PARIS 31 October 2019 The Philippine Embassy in France has issued an advisory for Filipinos traveling to Paris to be extra vigilant and to be alert to avoid being victims of break-ins, robberies, snatching, and pickpocketing in Paris.

Here is a list of safety guidelines that Filipinos are requested to follow when travelling in France:

  • Be wary of pickpockets and snatchers. They are rampant at metro stations, trains, shopping areas, and tourist spots. Always secure your personal belongings such as your bags, wallets, phones and other personal items when visiting tourist spots, walking around, and riding public transportation.
  • Theft may also occur in hotels and apartments. Make sure that your briefcases, bags, and other valuables are secure.
  • Some thefts were reported even in airports. Make sure to keep an eye on your belongings, to avoid losing your passport and other valuables. This is also to avoid inconvenience prior to your flight.
  • Be wary of people asking you to participate in petition signing or strangers who try to divert your attention by telling you that your wallet or jewellery is on the ground. These are just some of the methods used by pickpockets.
  • Do not carry a lot of cash. Most stores accept cards. Should you use your card, cover your hand discretely when typing the pin.
  • Keep your bags out of sight when inside the vehicles. Robberies may sometimes occur during traffic jams.
  • If you use a rental car, do not leave your valuables inside the car as rented vehicles are always targets of thieves.
  • Be alert and vigilant when visiting different areas in France. Make sure to follow the instructions of police and military personnel in case of any incident.

If urgent assistance is needed, you may call the Embassy’s 24/7 Emergency hotline at +33 6 20 59 25 15.
