On the Situation in Tripoli
30 December 2019 - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, reiterates its call for Filipinos in the Libyan capital where armed hostilities have broken out to immediately evacuate to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. To date, there are no reports of any Filipino casualties.
The Embassy issued its latest advisory after 17 Filipinos, including five minors, fled a neighborhood after their residential building was taken over by armed men.
Chargé d’Affaires Elmer G. Cato said the Embassy also issued an appeal for the Filipinos in the conflict areas to relocate or be ready to evacuate in case clashes spill over to their locations.
Filipinos who may be dislocated by the fighting may opt for repatriation or seek shelter at the Embassy temporarily.
A total of 149 Filipinos have been repatriated since the current conflict erupted in April 2019. END
