Statement: DFA Mourns the Passing of Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Rivas Yasay, Jr.
12 June 2020 – The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs mourns the passing of an esteemed and dedicated public servant, former Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Rivas Yasay, Jr., due to complications arising from cancer.
Secretary Yasay served as the first Secretary of Foreign Affairs under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Upon his retirement from government service, he served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Christian University.
“Jun Yasay hurt no one and helped everyone he could”, said Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr.
Mr. Yasay is survived by wife Marie Cecile and daughter Stephanie. Cremation of his remains is scheduled today.
The DFA pays tribute to a sincere mentor and offers prayers of comfort to the bereaved family. END
