Bulletin: Update No. 6 DFA: 11 more Filipinos injured, 1 more missing in Beirut Blasts
PASAY CITY 08 August 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, continues to ascertain the condition of the Filipinos affected by the blasts that rocked the port city earlier this week.
With ground operations clearing more area, and embassy personnel receiving additional reports, the Department is taking in new inputs with regard to the status of the Filipino community in the country.
"By day's end yesterday, the number of injured OFWs stands at 42, an increase of eleven from the previous report. We were also alerted that another Filipino was reported missing, increasing the number to two. The number of Filipino fatalities, meanwhile, remains at four," reported Undersecretary Sarah Lou Y. Arriola.
The Department stated previously that it expects the number of affected Filipinos in Beirut to increase considering the magnitude of the reported destruction.
The Department also announced that it has chartered a repatriation flight to bring home Filipinos from Lebanon. The flight scheduled on 16 August 2020 also seeks to bring home the mortal remains of Filipino victims of the recent explosions in Beirut Port. END
