Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Welcomes British Foreign Secretary’s Visit to Manila on 29 August 2023

28 August 2023 – The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines welcomes the visit of the Secretary of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, The Right Honourable James Spencer Cleverly, MP, to the Philippines on 29 August 2023. Secretary Enrique A. Manalo and Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will meet to discuss PH-UK bilateral relations and exchange views on pressing regional issues. This follows their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta last July. During this one-day visit to Manila, the British Foreign Secretary will also be calling on other high-level officials of the Philippine government.

Foreign Secretary Cleverly’s visit will be the first time since 2016 that a British Foreign Secretary had set foot in Manila. The visit is anticipated to reaffirm PH-UK ties and demonstrate mutually strong cooperation between the two governments, in line with the PH-UK Enhanced Partnership which was launched in November 2021.

The Philippines and the United Kingdom just celebrated their 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations last 4 July 2023. END
