Statement on the Forthcoming U.S. Presidential Trade and Investment Mission

15 January 2024 – The Department of Foreign Affairs welcomes the announcement by the White House of a Presidential Trade and Investment Mission (PTIM) to be led by Commerce Secretary Gina M. Raimondo on 11-12 March 2024.

The announcement follows through on an earlier commitment by U.S. President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the latter’s official working visit to Washington DC last May, to spur more capital-intensive investments in the country’s innovation economy, clean energy transition, critical minerals sector, and food security.

The PTIM will be the first of a series of major commercial events between the Philippines and the United States for the year, a testament to the two countries’ resolve to forge broader and deeper public-private partnerships for enduring, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and development. This will also help support the Marcos Administration’s socioeconomic agenda. END
