27 February 2014 –  The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia commemorated the 28th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 23 at the Embassy Chancery.

Fr. Jose Carlos Brandi Aleixo, S.J., author of Relations Between Brazil and Philippines: An Overview and professor at the University of Brasilia (UNB), celebrated holy mass with the Filipino Community, Embassy personnel, and Brazilian officials such as Captain Anderson Pinheiro of the Rio Branco Batallion; Professor of UNB, Dr. Nagib Nassar, and Sr. Rosita Milesi, Director of the Institute for Migration and Human Rights.

Philippine Ambassador to Brazil, Eva G. Betita delivered remarks recounting the events leading to the People Power revolution 28 years ago, and pointed out that the lessons from that momentous event in the course of Philippine history is still relevant today, as some parts of the world are currently fighting for freedom and democracy.

After the holy mass, the new officers of the Filipino Association of Brasilia (FAB), led by Mr. Harold Felongco Fernandez, FAB President, were sworn into office by the Ambassador.  The FAB is the first Filipino organization in Brazil formally organized and established during the visit to Brasilia of Secretary Albert F. del Rosario in 2011.

The event culminated in merienda composed of traditional Filipino food, such as "pansit" or noodles, chicken "embutido" or meatloaf, and buko salad, among others, and fellowship with the Filipino Community.  END
