09 July 2014 – The newly elected officers of the Samahang Manggagawang Babae sa Lebanon (SMBL) and the Filipino Workers Association in Metn (FILWAM), two of the current 51 Filipino community organizations and groups in Lebanon, took their oath of office before Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz in two separate occasions.
The officers of the SMBL were officially installed on June 29 at the Philippine Embassy. Founded in 2011, the organization currently has 59 members.
The FILWAM celebrated its 10th anniversary and held the induction of its new set of officers at its headquarters in Broumana, Metn in the Mount Lebanon Governorate on July 6.
Ambassador Ruiz conveyed her felicitations to the associations and also emphasized to the new officers the importance of upholding transparency and accountability in their operations. She urged them to remain united and committed in order to attain their respective goals and aspirations. She also requested their utmost cooperation in promoting the overseas voters registration for the 2016 national elections. END
