23 March 2017 NEW YORK – Philippine Consul General to New York Ma. Theresa Dizon-De Vega joined Labor Assistant Secretary Gloria Tango, National Reintegration Center for Overseas Filipino Workers (NRCO) Director Chona Mantilla, Welfare Officer Petrona Bergado, representatives of Filipino domestic workers’ association such as Damayan and Maharlika, and other stakeholders to discuss the Philippine Reintegration Program for overseas Filipino workers at a Town Hall Forum at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center on March 17.
The National Reintegration Program promotes the delivery of responsive, productive and sustainable reintegration services to OFW returnees. The program aims to enable them to maximize the gains of overseas employment, mitigate the social costs of migration and cushion the impact of forced repatriation due to unexpected events.
During the forum, Consul General De Vega stressed the importance of keeping the overseas Filipino community updated on the latest developments in the National Reintegration Program.
She said that the Consulate General has sought for deeper engagement and collaboration with the Filipino community in matters relating to promotion of workers’ welfare and labor rights as well as in actively pursuing partnerships with Philippine government agencies and private sector groups to assist underserved sectors in the diaspora.
