01 March 2017 DUBAI, UAE – Some 26 Philippine-based exporters recently participated in Gulfood 2017, the world’s largest food and beverage exhibit led by the Center for International Trade and Expositions (CITEM), in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Philippine Consul General in Dubai, Paul Raymund P. Cortes, together with his wife, Dr. Yasmin B. Cortes, opened the Philippine Pavilion at Gulfood’s 22nd edition.
Consul General Cortes expressed hope that the Philippine participation will increase awareness and demand for Philippine food products not only among the Filipinos but to the rest of the international community in Dubai and the GCC. He emphasized how important Gulfood is to the Philippines’ campaign to introduce Philippine food products and cuisine to the region’s wide ethnic mix and to promote and assist our Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), particularly those into food and beverage production and distribution.
Last year, the Philippine participation netted some $109 million worth of negotiated sales. The Consul General expressed optimism that this year’s figure will surpass last year’s figures due to the growing demand of Filipino food and beverage products in the UAE and GCC community. END
