DND/AFP Delegation in Moscow for “Army 2017”, Arms Talks

04 September 2017 MOSCOW – A Philippine Delegation composed of officials from the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was in Moscow from August 22 to 27 for the International Military and Technical Forum or “Army 2017” and for talks on the possible procurement of military equipment from Russia.

The delegation was headed by Defense Undersecretary Raymundo DV Elefante.  The other members of the delegation were Maj. General N. Cabreros, Vice Commander of the Philippine Army, Brig. General Ernesto T. Lopena, Commander, AFP Procurement Center, and other officials from the military.

While in Moscow, the delegation also met with concerned Russian officials on the possibility of procuring Russian military equipment for the Philippines. 

“This is an important step in our efforts to intensify our defense and security cooperation.  Examining Russian equipment and discussing possible procurement terms will allow us to make decisions that will best serve our defense and national interests,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.

Over 700,000 people went to “Army 2017” among them were delegations from 114 foreign countries, 20 of which were led by defense ministers.

More than 1,200 Russian and foreign companies and organizations displayed and exhibited defense and military products. Foreign exhibitors included 78 defense-related companies from Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, Slovakia, Thailand, Turkey, France, Estonia, the Czech Republic, South Africa, and South Korea.
