PHL Joins Russian Energy Week in Moscow

06 October 2017 MOSCOW - With a view to expanding energy cooperation between the Philippines and Russia, Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta joined the Russian Energy Week (REW Forum) in Moscow on October 03 to 07. 

Over 8,000 participants from Russian companies and government agencies, foreign governments and companies, as well as representatives from the scientific and expert communities were present at the forum.

According to the organizers, the goal of the REW Forum is “to demonstrate the prospects of the Russian fuel and energy sector and realize the potential for international cooperation.”

Among the discussions at the REW Forum which were of particular interest to the Philippines were “The Role and Potential Development of Nuclear Energy in the Global Energy Mix” which was moderated by Mr. Charles Hendry, former Minister of State for Energy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; “Russia’s Foreign Energy Policy” moderated by Anatoly Yanovsk, Russian Deputy Minister of Energy; and “Developing Renewable Energy Sources in Russia: Scaling Up and Exporting Technology” moderated by Georgiy Kekelidze, Chairman of the Board, Association for Renewable Energy (EUROSOLAR Russia).

“We are currently in discussions with Russia on bilateral energy cooperation. We are examining all avenues of cooperation that would address our energy needs and comply with our energy policies. Events like the REW Forum provide us with the opportunity to better understand how best to cooperate with Russia in this area,” Ambassador Sorreta said.

The REW Forum was opened by Russian President Vladimir Putin.  END
