29 July 2013 - In celebration of the 115th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam once again organized a flag-raising ceremony followed by an open house for the Filipino community at the Embassy grounds and a reception at the Pullman Hotel on June 09 and 12, respectively.
Following tradition, the Embassy held a Flag-raising ceremony on June 09 at the Embassy grounds with the Filipino community. Members of the community and their families who came to join the celebration were treated to a Filipino breakfast of pansit palabok and guinataang halo-halo. A video of “It’s more fun in the Philippines” was also shown.
On June 12, the Embassy hosted a reception for the diplomatic corps, government officials and prominent members of the business and cultural communities in Hanoi, including those from the Filipino community in Vietnam.
During the toast, Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam Jerril G. Santos honored Filipino forefathers who fought foreign invaders and local oppressors to gain freedom and independence and stressed that “it is our duty to ensure that what has been achieved should never be lost.” In response, the Guest of Honor, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh, congratulated the Philippines in its remarkable achievements on national reconstruction and development.
Other cities in Vietnam also played host to events celebrating Philippine Independence. On 13 June 2013, the Filipino Community in Danang, Central Vietnam had a “Kundiman Night” with a reception. On 14 June 2013, Philippine Honorary Consul General Atty. Le Thi Phung hosted a reception for the consular corps and local authorities and representatives from Philippine businesses at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House. END
