03 December 2013 - The Philippine Embassy in Madrid reported that Deputy Chief of Mission Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. participated in a benefit premiere showing of the Spanish movie “Diamantes Negros” (Black Diamonds) for the victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) which was organized by the Centro Hospitalario Benito Menni in Valladolid, Spain on November 26. The regular screening in theaters in Spain starts on November 29.
In his remarks, Consul General Dilem expressed the Embassy´s appreciation to all the organizers of the fundraising event which will surely help the Philippine Government in its relief operations efforts to alleviate the conditions of the victims. Consul General Dilem also shared with the audience the latest figures of the devastation and the actual situation in the country.
Before the movie showing, Consul General Dilem was interviewed by local TV station wherein he shared the latest developments related to the disastrous event. He likewise met the administrators and staff of the hospital, who expressed their sympathies and affection to the victims of the typhoon. An interpretative drawing by some patients of the hospital on the aftermath of the typhoon was displayed at the entrance of the hospital and was later presented to Mr. Dilem as a present.
Diamantes Negros is a Spanish movie which was released in movie theaters in Spain las November 29. It is a story about African young boys who dream of escaping poverty and becoming professional football players in Spain, but eventually became victims of illegal recruitment and exploitation.
The Centro Hospitalario Benito Menni attends to patients with mental disorders, physical disabilities, senior citizens and other patients. Since its establishment in 1989 it has attended to more than 16,000 persons. END
