16 December 2013 – The Philippine Consulate General witnessed the ceremonial turn-over of a US$ 645,000 donation from the Panda Restaurant Group Inc. (PRGI) to two organizations conducting relief work for Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Philippines held at the Ramón C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts in Los Angeles on December 11.

The amount was raised through collections from November 13 to December 04 by in-store guests and associates of PRGI, and was matched 100% by the company.

PRGI co-Chairwoman and co-CEO Peggy Cherng presented the donation to the American Red Cross and the Tzu Chi Foundation.

Witnesses of the event included California State Assemblyman Rob Bonta, Cerritos Mayor Pro Temp Mark Pullido, LA Councilmember Gilbert Cedillo (District 1), Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell (District 13), along with officials from the Philippine Consulate General led by Consul Marlowe Miranda, and 12th grader and President of the Red Cross Club Trong Kim .

The turn-over was held at the Ramón C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts where high school student-members of the Red Cross Club also initiated a fund drive that raised and donated US$ 714 that was also matched 100% by PRGI.
