PH Embassy in Moscow Holds Film Screening in Observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women
Philippine Embassy kicks off the week with a flag ceremony
MOSCOW 30 November 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow held a special screening of the film “Pauwi Na” on 26 November 2023 in observance of the 2023 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women.
The movie is inspired by a true story about a struggling family who wants to return to their hometown from Metro Manila. Without enough transport money, they decide to use a pedicab so they could "pedal" their way back to the province. It won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Feature Film at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2017.
Mr. Paolo Villaluna, Director of the Film, delivered a video recorded message for the viewers. Mr. Villaluna is an Urian-award winning filmmaker whose filmography has won International acclaim. He is the co-creator and director of the groundbreaking documentary series Storyline and his TV work has garnered several New York Film festival awards.
Ninety-five members of the Filipino community and Embassy personnel attended the film screening, most of whom are women. The film was positively received by the audience, who expressed their appreciation for the Embassy’s initiatives for constantly organizing activities that are beneficial to their day to day lives.
In addition, the Philippine Embassy kicks off the week with a flag ceremony using the “All-Women Cast Lupang Hinirang” video while wearing the VAW campaign shirt with the theme “UNiTED for a VAW-Free Philippines. END
