DFA Consular Office Lucena Conducts Seminar on “Safe Spaces Act”
Atty. Francisco Ferdinand F. Lagman discussed the provisions of the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313) and underscored the importance of gender-based sexual harassment prevention and awareness.
LUCENA 16 December 2024 − As a culminating activity of the DFA Consular Office (CO) Lucena’s observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from 25 November to 12 December, CO Lucena, through its Gender and Development (GAD) program, organized a two-hour seminar on Republic Act No. 11313 also known as the “Safe Spaces Act” for its personnel and support staff on 12 December 2024 at the DFA CO Lucena premises.
The seminar was aimed at preventing and raising the awareness of personnel about gender-based sexual harassment. The seminar further capacitated CO Lucena’s Committee of Decorum and Investigation (CODI) members on the proper case handling of sexual harassment cases.
Atty. Francisco Ferdinand F. Lagman, Assistant City Legal Officer of Lucena City, served as the Resource Speaker. Atty. Lagman gave a comprehensive discussion of the Safe Spaces Act and explained in detail gender-based sexual harassment online, in the workplace, public places and on the streets as well as the duties and responsibilities of the CODI.
DFA CO Lucena supported the 18-day advocacy campaign through its conduct of the following activities from 25 November to 12 December 2024: the use of “All-Women Cast Lupang Hinirang” during its flag ceremonies; displaying the 2024 official campaign banner in the most conspicuous place of the CO premises; playing of advocacy/campaign videos on its LCD monitors; distribution of Magna Carta of Women and Special Leave Benefits for Women brochures to applicants; and administering a paper survey to assess the level of CO applicants’ awareness and involvement to the 18-Day to End VAW Campaign.
