11 June 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Agana joined the Guam Filipino Artists (GFA) during the opening of its OBRA V art exhibit on June 07 at the Micronesia Mall in Dededo.
Held for the fifth time, OBRA V was organized by the members of GFA to showcase the talents and artworks of its members and as their way and contribution to the month-long commemoration of the 117th anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence by the Filipino community on the island of Guam.
Nineteen (19) members of the Guam Filipino Artists actively participated and displayed their artworks, which included paintings in oil, acrylic, water color, photography, sculpture and installation.
Among the special artworks being displayed are the sculpture of Jesus Nazarene made of recycled scrap metal created by Anoy Figueroa and the artistic installation by Marcial Pontillas entitled “Endangered”, an image of a dead dolphin trapped in a broken fish net that is assembled or formed on the floor out of garbage and plastic materials found and gathered by the artist himself at the beach in Guam the day after Typhoon Dolphin.
Philippine Consul General Marciano R. de Borja delivered a welcome message and expressed its appreciation to the Guam Filipino Artists for their close cooperation in the celebration of Philippine Independence by showcasing their talents in an art exhibit through paintings, sculpture, drawings, photographs and installation.
After his message, Consul General de Borja and Vice Speaker Benjamin J.F. Cruz of the 33rd Guam Legislature then led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, together with Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, Mr. Meliton Santos, Jr., President of the Guam Filipino Artists and Mr. Rolly Zepeda, Vice President of the Guam Filipino Artists.
The event was also attended by the leaders and representatives of other Filipino organizations on the island as well as by the supporters or benefactors of the Guam Filipino Artists. END
