Sentro Rizal Cairo Screens ‘Sunday Beauty Queen’ for the Month of Overseas Filipinos
Filipino community leader Nova Madkour provides updates on planned livelihood training programs for Filipinos in Egypt.
19 December 2017 CAIRO – In celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and as part of its continuing Gender and Development (GAD) advocacy, the Sentro Rizal Cairo at the Philippine Embassy in Egypt invited the Filipino community to a special screening of the acclaimed documentary film Sunday Beauty Queen.
The audience identified deeply with the experiences portrayed in the film, which chronicles Filipino household workers in Hong Kong who join beauty pageants with dreams of better lives. Sunday Beauty Queen, directed by Babyruth Villarama and produced by TBA Studios, has garnered various international awards for its empowering portrayal of Filipino migrant workers.
The Embassy also took the opportunity to brief attendees on livelihood training programs being planned for Filipinos in Egypt, in partnership with local community leaders.
In the spirit of the holiday season, the Embassy also hosted dinner and raffled out some prizes. END
