WARSAW 11 September 2018 — In response to the clamor of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Poland, the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw offered its first ever free Polish language lessons at the Embassy.

Under the Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) program, a total of 48 OFWs, 40 females and eight male, were enrolled in the Polish language course conducted every Sunday afternoon.

Philippine Ambassador to Poland Patricia Ann V. Paez said that this activity will improve the skills and thus empower OFWs, especially the women. Fluency in the native and official language of their host country will enable them to find better-paying jobs in Poland and enrich their social and cultural life. The interaction and bonding of female and male OFWs through this shared activity will also mutually enhance their gender sensitivities.

Alongside language classes, the Embassy also opened its registration desk for Overseas Absentee Voters (OAV), and conducted regular consultation session with OFW’s called “Kabayan, Idulog mo sa Embassy.”

Six OFWs consulted Consul Alnee Gamble regarding employment concerns. END
