MUSCAT 29 November 2018 — The Gender and Development (GAD) Unit of the Philippine Embassy in Muscat organized a workshop on “Addressing Violence Against Persons” for its personnel on 16 November 2018.
With Philippine School Oman Guidance Counselor Norelyn M. Cacay as resource person, the workshop covered the different types and levels of violence, the effects of violence on those who experience it, and ways to attend to victims.
The activity was organized in line with the Philippine government’s 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) that begins on November 2018, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on 12 December 2018.
In accordance with the year’s theme “VAW-free community starts with me,” the workshop also aims to enhance the Embassy personnel’s training in responding to overseas Filipinos, especially those in distressing situations who approach them for assistance for various issues.
The workshop also took an inclusive view, recognizing that violence affects women as well as men and children of varying age and backgrounds. END
