PH Embassy in Manama Organizes VAW Free Community Fun Run and Walk
MANAMA 11 December 2018 – In line with the Philippine government’s 18-day Campaign To End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine Embassy in Manama, in cooperation with Harbour Gate and Women's Crisis Care International (WCCI), held a five-kilometer fun run and walk at the Bahrain Financial Harbour in Manama on 01 December 2018.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador to Bahrain Alfonso A. Ver discussed the importance of the global campaign to stop violence against women and children, and lauded WCCI’s efforts in spreading awareness, as well as, as for their support for victims of abuse.
He also thanked the participants for attending the event and encouraged all to play their role in raising awareness to help end violence against women.
WCCI Volunteer Coordinator Zoe Jarvis thanked the Embassy and Harbour Gate for partnering with them and in supporting their cause to increase awareness on the issue of gender-based violence, and provide help and support for the victims.
Mr. Angus Campbell of Harbour Gate provided a short briefing on the route of the run/walk explaining that participants may opt to do a 1.5-kilometer, 2.5-kilometer or a 5-kilometer. Harbour Gate regularly conducts a 5-kilometer run every Saturday at the same Bahrain Bay Route.
Volunteer nurses from the King Hamad University Hospital provided free blood pressure check and blood sugar tests to all participants, before and after the fun run/walk.
More than 100 people of different age, gender and abilities attended the fun run/walk wearing their orange VAW t-shirts. Snacks were served after the event. END
